Airbnb's Founder-Absorbed Product Management (Chesky)

Airbnb did not fold product management into product marketing when it reorganized — instead, Brian Chesky took over the product management function himself while also expanding product marketing. Cagan's stated concern is that Chesky appears to be running product management as project-based, output-driven work, the opposite of the Product Model (vs. Roadmap Model)'s outcome orientation. This is a different pattern from Outside "Professional Manager" Hire — A Generational Blind Spot (Apple, Airbnb) (bringing in an outside professional manager): here the founder pulled the function inward rather than delegating it outward, but Cagan reads the risk as the same regression toward output either way.
