"The vision is the thing that takes us from the incremental to the audacious" — but audacity has to be calibrated to what the company's culture and readiness can actually support. Microsoft's internally-mocked "flying car" vision video failed because it was disconnected from the company's actual readiness and identity — it read as fantasy, not direction. SpaceX succeeds with an equally audacious, even longer-horizon vision (Mars) because it's calibrated to a culture built to pursue it.
The lesson: audacity without cultural credibility undermines a Product Vision's ability to inspire.
