Lore

Category Lockdown and Moral Shielding

A category is the second of three stacked control levers (see Frame, Category, and Identity Control (Three-Level Reality Control)) — where a frame decides the room and is loose/renegotiable, a category decides what's permitted and, once set, is frozen. 100% of arguments are claimed to happen inside categories: once a category hardens, the underlying debate is effectively decided and stated opinions become decorative.

Category Lockdown

A four-condition method for making a categorization stick (e.g., labeling an issue "a safety concern"): deliver it early, calm, boring, and uncontested. A more boring, unremarkable delivery makes the category harder to dislodge, not easier — drama or urgency invites contest, flatness doesn't. Category control fails when the person naming it moralizes, rushes, sounds clever, or corners someone's identity — a trapped person revolts rather than complies (see Metaphor Swap and Function Naming (Identity Reframing Without Negation) for the identity-trap failure mode).

Category Shielding (moral immunity via category)

Once a stance sits inside the right category, criticism of it gets automatically recoded as a moral failing of the critic rather than a valid objection:

Placing a stance inside one of these protective categories pre-emptively frames objections as reckless, cruel, ignorant, or immature before the objection is even heard.

Why categories stick

Ambiguity is aversive; resolving it into a named category produces felt "relief" that gets mistaken for truth. This is why people defend a category even against contrary evidence — see Frame, Category, and Identity Control (Three-Level Reality Control) for the fuller mechanism.
