Claude Skills (Saving AI Analyses as Reusable Tools)

Claude Skills let a one-off, successful AI-assisted analysis be saved as a persistent, reusable tool — telling Claude to 'save this as a skill' turns an ad-hoc prompt-and-upload session into a named capability that anyone on a team can invoke later just by uploading fresh data, without needing to reconstruct the original prompt or know how the underlying analysis works.

Building a robust skill is iterative rather than one-shot: start with a minimal ('dumb baby') prompt, verify the output, then progressively add specific requirements (e.g. new insight categories, layout, branding) one at a time, with teammates testing intermediate versions before treating the skill as finished.

Skills compress recurring manual-analysis work (e.g. building pivot tables to collate cross-campaign keyword data, see Amazon Search Term Report) into a repeatable few-minute operation, shifting the unit of value from 'a person who knows how to run the analysis' to 'a tool the team can run.'
