Daily 0–1 Self-Grading Ritual

A concrete environment-design example Cutler cites: one leader has the team grade their own daily effort/impact on a continuous 0-to-1 scale. A score around 0.5 signals the team 'might as well flip coins' — not enough signal or intent behind the day's work. A perfect 1.0 is a red flag too: 'we're lying to ourselves,' since real work always involves some friction or misjudgment.

The target band is roughly 0.7–0.8 — high enough to signal genuine effort and risk-taking, low enough to leave room for honest acknowledgment of mistakes. A lightweight instance of Checkpoints vs. Performative Rituals (QBR Theater): a frequent, real ritual for closing the loop on a day's work, rather than a ceremonial review divorced from what actually happened.
