Picnic applies product-management discipline to its own internal planning machinery: the cross-team Cross-Team Dependency Pre-Alignment Cycle cycle and the Explicit Trade-off Prioritization slide format are themselves treated as products to be monitored and iterated, not fixed procedures handed down once. The team already has concrete ideas for improving both the trade-off visualization and the dependency-tracking tooling.
Apply: periodically revisit your own planning artifacts and tooling — templates, meeting cadences, tracking tools — the same way you would revisit a customer-facing feature, updating them as weaknesses are identified rather than treating the process as settled.
The review process itself was revisited every quarter: at the end of each planning cycle, the team explicitly asked whether the OKR planning/review process had worked, and adjusted the format rather than leaving it static. This is how the review evolved from live per-team meetings toward the async video-plus-doc format with selective live follow-ups (see Async OKR Review via Video Clips) — the process was treated as a product with its own iteration cycle, not a fixed ritual.
