The 'Dummy Explanation' (Assume Zero Prior Knowledge)

A messaging discipline: when explaining the company or product externally, assume the audience has zero prior knowledge of either — no familiarity with the category, the company name, or the problem it solves. Wiz uses this as a named internal principle to keep external communication legible to people encountering the company for the first time, rather than writing for people already steeped in the internal narrative.

The discipline matters most for a category with real conceptual overhead (cloud security) and a company whose founders already assume shared context because they've explained it hundreds of times internally. It pairs with Overcommunication Tactic for Unpopular Changes's "the bubble" heuristic — internal fatigue with a message is a bad guide to whether external audiences have actually absorbed it, so simple, assume-nothing explanations need to be repeated past the point where they feel obvious to the team.
