Durable-Questions Book Structure (Why / For Whom / What / How-When)

Julia Barham's organizing framework for her book, The Product Management Playbook (Rosenfeld Media, July 2026): rather than prescribing one methodology, the book is structured around four durable questions that mirror the product development process itself — why something matters, for whom, what to do about it, and how and when to do it.

The book pairs this structure with 21 step-by-step "plays" for specific stuck scenarios. Quote: "If there was a perfect methodology or a perfect framework, we'd probably know it by now. We'd probably all be using it."

21 Plays as the Practical Reference Layer

Underneath the why/for-whom/what/how-when structure, the book also contains 21 step-by-step "plays" spanning the product lifecycle — setting business goals, building vision, concept testing, discovery, delivery, in-market optimization, and inheriting a bad product. The durable-questions structure is the book's conceptual spine; the plays are what a reader actually pulls out when stuck on a specific scenario, e.g. running a business-strategy workshop after inheriting a product with misaligned business goals.
