Growth Board with Phase-Gated Evidence Requirements
A governance body that reviews innovation projects against evidence thresholds set for each phase of the funnel — discovery, validation, acceleration/pre-scaling, scale — rather than demanding full business-case evidence upfront.
Two design requirements Osterwalder stresses:
- Escalating bars, not one bar: the evidence required at discovery (a handful of qualitative signals) is deliberately weaker than what's required at scale (real market/financial evidence) — see Evidence Spectrum for Validating Business Ideas.
- Real power in the room: the board must be staffed with people who can actually remove organizational blockers (budget, headcount, political cover), not just people who can say yes/no. A board without that power produces the same starvation problem it was built to fix.
Works alongside the landing pad: the growth board decides when an idea is ready to scale, the landing pad decides where it goes.
