A manual brush technique that sets the Brush tool's own blend mode (not just the layer's) to constrain each stroke to a specific tonal or color range — e.g. a mode that paints only hue/saturation without touching luminance, or one that only affects highlights or only shadow — instead of freehand painting over everything and masking after the fact. This lets a single custom-built brush add highlight, shadow, or local color without repainting the surrounding area.
Extends to building a bespoke brush shape from scratch (not a stock brush), then loading it with color sampled from the surrounding scene (see Manual Light/Color Matching via Environment Sampling (Non-AI Composite Integration)) and stamping it repeatedly to construct complex organic forms — e.g. towering spires built up entirely by hand rather than composited from photography. Used as one stage inside Depth-Ordered Compositing Workflow (Background-to-Foreground Build Sequence).
