Apply by telling engineers explicitly that work isn't complete until they've tested it by logging in as a specific real user (e.g. the CEO), forcing them to confront the actual data, permissions, and edge cases that user encounters.
The practice doubles as a demonstration of Product Driven Model (Vision, Focus, Clarity, Shared Ownership, Courage)'s shared-ownership and courage components: once Matt modeled the expectation by insisting on it himself, a lead engineer independently began repeating and enforcing the same rule to the rest of the team without being asked to — ownership and standard-setting propagating sideways rather than staying with the founder.
