The current business climate pressures leaders to constantly act rather than think, and AI has intensified that pressure further. Digging deeply into how a team works, or deliberately designing its rituals and incentives, gets read as "not being very strategic." The climate rewards big, bold swings and treats the small, sustainable steps associated with continuous improvement and agile-style work as unfashionable or timid.
This creates a bind: leaders who might otherwise want to intentionally design their team's game avoid it, because the work reads as process-fiddling rather than strategy — even when they know it matters.
