Main-Image Tactic Checklist

A category-agnostic checklist of recurring main-image tactics observed to move conversion, used to generate variants for a split test rather than guessing at one new image: mirroring/flipping product orientation, showing packaging, adding text to otherwise-plain packaging, showing ingredients or flavors, adding certification or origin badges, and choosing a relevant model or prop that matches the buyer's context (e.g., matching dog breed to product type).

Apply by generating several variants that each isolate one tactic, then running them through a split test (see Competitor-Benchmarked Split Testing (vs. Self-Only Comparison)) to see which resonates with the specific audience and category. Related, narrower tactics already in the vault: Main-Image Prop Technique (Rule-Breaking for CTR), Product Photo Pain-Point/Solution Strategy, Ingredient-Benefit Callouts.

Primary Selling Point Hack

One main-image layout combines four elements to raise CTR: the primary selling point (e.g., "90-day supply"), what the product is for, three key features, and the product itself. The goal is to answer "why click this one" within the thumbnail rather than relying on the title alone.

Selling-Point → Purpose → Features → Product Formula

A recurring main-image layout formula, illustrated on a supplement listing: lead with the single primary selling point (e.g., '90-day supply'), then the product's core purpose/use, then three key features, then the product shot itself — ordered to match how the eye scans the thumbnail. The goal is click-through rate: the shopper should register the strongest hook before anything else. Pairs with Main-Image CTR as the Highest-Leverage Controllable Growth Lever and the category-specific Secondary Image Category Rule (Infographic vs. Facts Panel) for image two.
