Metrics One-Pager

Overview

A one-page exercise, run before any roadmap work starts: map the organization's single top current business goal, then show how the product and its sub-areas (acquisition, engagement, retention) causally connect to that goal. The point is to force the "how does my work make money" chain onto paper before teams start debating features.

Sequencing

The one-pager comes first; the roadmap is downstream of it, not the other way around. This mirrors Outcome-Based Roadmap Reframing and Placing Bets (Strategy-as-Bets Framing) — bets and roadmaps only make sense once the goal-to-product connection is explicit.

Marketplace example

For marketplace businesses, the sub-metric that usually anchors the one-pager is Matching Rate as Core Marketplace Metric — the rate at which the two sides of the marketplace are successfully paired — since it's typically the proximate driver of the revenue goal.
