A causal tradeoff surfaced during sourcing: if a product's packaging is oversized relative to the product itself, per-unit shipping cost can climb to the point where it exceeds the product's own landed unit cost — eating directly into the budget that would otherwise fund bundled differentiation items (extra components, gift add-ons, etc).
