Pivotal Cloud Foundry is a platform-as-a-service (PaaS) product from Pivotal that absorbs much of the infrastructure and API-management complexity of running a microservices architecture — described in the Datasite account as 'training wheels for microservices.'
Datasite adopted it during its Monolith-to-Microservices Migration Playbook specifically because the team was new to the microservices pattern: the PaaS layer reduced the operational burden of standing up microservices infrastructure while the org was still learning the pattern, rather than requiring the team to build that operational tooling itself from day one.
