A business model of sourcing trendy, low-differentiation products from third-party manufacturers and selling them under one's own brand/label, typically on Amazon. Alvaro Lopez used this model in 2018, private-labeling Peruvian superfoods (a trending category) to test demand with minimal product development investment, using Helium 10's research tools to validate the opportunity before committing capital. Because differentiation is inherently low (the underlying product is a commodity), the model works best as a de-risked way to test demand and learn the Amazon platform rather than as a long-term differentiated brand strategy — contrast with Differentiation vs. Race-to-the-Bottom. See also De-Risked Entrepreneurship (Breakeven-Plus-Learning Model).
