The "About Her" Cheat Code for Relevance

Overview

The fastest route to the Relevance stage of FRED: The Four-Stage Hooking Model (Focus, Relevance, Emotion, Decision) is simply making a remark specifically about her — what she's doing, wearing, or how she looks in the moment — rather than about the speaker, the environment, or generic small talk. Content matters less than direction: because it's about her, it's almost automatically relevant to her, regardless of what's actually said.

Application

Use as a default opener/follow-up test: "is this about her?" If yes, the Relevance stage is likely satisfied even without a clever line. Pairs well with Genuine Compliments (Direct & In Absentia) and Ambiguous Charged Language (Dark + Flattering Words) as a delivery vehicle.

Applications

Aiming open loops at her, not neutral topics

Todd V's version of this cheat code applied specifically to open loops: since a new acquaintance cares more about herself than about the man, an open loop framed around her ("I know a secret about you") is far more compelling than the identical structure aimed at a neutral topic ("I know a secret about the weather"). The content of the tease matters less than whether its subject is her — this is what makes the mini cold read work as an opener move: it's an open loop whose subject is immediately "about her."
