Self-Reading via Reaction-Rewind (Charisma Building)

The most valuable application of the people-reading skillset described in Body Language Reveals What Words Conceal and Every Action Is a Sign is turning it on yourself rather than on others. Per Charisma on Command: "if your goal is to improve your charisma then the most important person to get good at reading is yourself."

Mechanism: notice the moments mid-conversation where you form a strong positive or negative opinion of someone ("I really like this person"), then mentally rewind to what they just said or did seconds earlier, and consider adopting that specific behavior yourself. This reframes every conversation as a live source of behavioral data about what actually reads as charismatic — a closed loop rather than a one-way observational skill.

Related but distinct from Observation Over Self-Absorption, which is about staying outward-focused during an interaction rather than self-conscious; this concept is about deliberately turning inward after the fact to harvest your own reactions as training data. Also complements Charisma as a Trainable Skill (Reps) — reaction-rewind is a concrete rep-generating mechanism for that broader claim.
