Show-Packaging Image (Safer Alternative to Main-Image Props)

An Amazon-approved main-image tactic that uses the product's own packaging — rather than models or lifestyle props, see Main-Image Prop Technique (Rule-Breaking for CTR) — to communicate use case or make the image stand out in search results.

Only worth using if the packaging itself is visually appealing (color, shape, printed graphics create contrast against the white/light background). Plain, undifferentiated packaging isn't worth photographing on its own.

When packaging alone isn't attractive enough, a label or design element can be added or emphasized digitally on top of the packaging photo to call out a key feature — without altering the physical box in a misleading way. This also doubles as a prompt for the actual packaging design: build in a callout-able label or design element up front.

Apply: Photograph packaging for the main image only if it's visually appealing; if it's plain, either skip it or add a digital label/design-element overlay to call out a key feature, and factor that into future packaging design.
