Targeted Recolor: Selection Brush Subtract + Hue/Saturation Eyedropper

A technique for recoloring one item (e.g. a shirt or jacket) on a subject without affecting skin or other elements, combining two refinements on top of an AI subject selection:

1. Switch the Selection Brush Tool to Subtract mode (shown as a pink overlay) and paint over areas that should be excluded from the AI-generated subject selection — typically the face and hands — so a downstream color edit can't touch skin tones.
2. Add a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer; because a selection is active, its mask auto-loads pre-refined (see Active Selection Auto-Loads as New Layer Mask).
3. Use the layer's eyedropper to target a specific color range (e.g. Yellows) by sampling directly from the clothing.
4. Drag the Hue slider — only that sampled color range shifts, recoloring the garment (e.g. yellow jacket to red or orange) while everything else, including skin, stays untouched.

The combination of selection-brush subtraction (protecting skin) and eyedropper color-range targeting (isolating the garment's hue) is what makes the recolor precise without manual masking.
