A previously exploitable trick: enroll multiple parent ASINs of essentially the same product in Amazon Vine separately, each accumulating its own batch of Vine reviews, then merge the parent ASINs together so the merged listing inherited the combined review count from every enrollment.
Amazon closed this loophole — a merged listing now keeps only the review count from its single highest-enrollment-tier ASIN, not the sum of all merged ASINs' Vine reviews. Relevant to Amazon Review Acquisition Tactics Risk Spectrum as an example of a gray-area tactic Amazon has since patched.
