DISC Personality Framework

An existing personality framework — Dominance, Influence, Steadiness, Conscientiousness — that the authors of Align adopted after finding their own invented stakeholder-personality model was roughly 90% identical to it. Related to but distinct from Myers-Briggs.

Used as one more axis on the Stakeholder Canvas: layering a DISC category onto each stakeholder entry informs how to tailor communication style to that specific person, alongside cultural context (see Cultural and Departmental Context Shapes How Disagreement Is Communicated) and organizational position (see The Matrix: Mapping Real (Informal) Power vs. the Org Chart).

Origin note: independently converged on DISC

Bruce McCarthy and Melissa Appel initially tried to build their own personality-difference framework for Align, then found it was roughly 90% identical to the existing DISC framework and adopted DISC rather than publish a redundant model. Minor as provenance, but a useful sanity check: if a new framework mostly reproduces an old one, use the old one.
