Negotiated Trial with Predefined Success Criteria

A way to resolve a disagreement about approach without a debate: propose trying the disputed approach one way for a defined period, with success criteria agreed in advance, and commit that if those criteria aren't met, the other approach gets a turn. "We'll try it your way; if we don't hit X by [a point], will you try it my way?"

This converts an argument about who's right into an empirical test both sides already agreed would be fair — which is what makes it a negotiation technique rather than just running an experiment. It resembles Quitting Criteria (Annie Duke, "Quit") (pre-committing to criteria before you're emotionally invested in the outcome), but here the criteria are negotiated between two disagreeing parties rather than set unilaterally by one decision-maker.
