Confidence is easier to feel the more positive social 'reference experiences' a person has accumulated and allowed themselves to appreciate. The loop is self-reinforcing: confidence produces better responses from others, which produces more confidence, and so on. Fame is framed as an accelerant that generated this loop passively over a lifetime (e.g. for Johnny Depp), but the mechanism itself doesn't require fame — it can be built deliberately by manufacturing and appreciating small social wins (e.g. being proud of cracking a joke to a cashier even if it doesn't land) rather than dwelling on what could have gone better.
Related: Charisma as a Trainable Skill (Reps) (reps building skill over time) and Self-Reading via Reaction-Rewind (Charisma Building) (reviewing past interactions to extract lessons) — this concept differs by emphasizing appreciation of wins as fuel for confidence itself, not skill acquisition.
