Hero Image "Sell the Experience" Technique

An Amazon hero image's job is to sell the experience of using a product, not to show it sealed inside its packaging — since shoppers can't touch, smell, or open anything on a product page, the image has to do that sensory work for them.

Apply by pulling the product out of its container and adding category-appropriate sensory cues: the smear for lotion or face cream, capsules spilling from a supplement bottle, the scoop for a powder, flame and smoke for a candle, beans or a steaming cup for coffee, or the specific scent ingredient (lavender, citrus) for a scented product.

A mint chocolate protein puff brand validated this by pulling the bar out of its wrapper and adding a mint leaf, a chocolate piece, and a boosted green hue — it won a head-to-head image poll 23-to-7 against the sealed-package version.
